Wrigley Candy

The Wrigley Corporation prides itself on being innovative. The company was founded by William Wrigley Jr. He was 29 years old and had seemingly unlimited energy. He was a great salesman and started his company ar 29 years old selling soap. His father was a soap manufacturer. The business started in Chicago. He later expanded to baking powder in an effort to grow his business. As an incentive to buy more baking pwder he began offering free chewing gum with each baking powder purchase.

An interesting aspect of Wrigley was that each of his incentive products proved more popular than the primary product he was trying to sell. Mr. Wrigley decided that chewing gum was the product he really wanted to sell. It was a big hit. It was not an easy start and the company almost went under a few times. Mr. Wrigley was persistent and very influential with people. He focused on quality and customer service. In the end he prevailed and the company began to grow. Wrigley was one of the pioneers of advertising to grow consumer acceptance of his products.
