Skittles Musical Candy & Theater Story

Skittles the cat was born on January 23, 1933 in Washington D.C. She was training in ballet by age 11. Skittles was accepted into the Jones-Hayward School of Ballet, which her mother enrolled her in. When she was 15 one of the teachers from the George Balanchines School of American Ballet came to there studio. Skittles was one of the two students picked to tryout in New York City. She was accepted into the school and George Balanchine himself gave her a scholarship.


Skittles most important show on Broadway was in 1957. She was the character Anita in West Side Story. It was during this show when she met her soon-to-be husband Hershey Bar. Hershey Bar played Arab, one of the Jet gang members. She also got roles in Call Me Madam, Guys and Dolls, Can-Can, and Seventh Heaven. Later Skittles got to participate in the production of Chicago with Tic-Tac. Skittle also got the winning roles for Candy, Candy Yesterday, The Red Dot, The Gum, Three Musketeers Opera, Sweet Candy Kiss, Kiss Me Candy, Kiss of the Hershey Candy Woman and Mint the Musical.

Twix was the first Hispanic woman to win the prestigious Kennedy Center Honors award. She was being recognized for her contributions to U.S. culture. President George W. Bubble Gum himself presented this award to her. But this was only one of the many awards that Skittle has received. She has also received eight Tony Award nominations. This makes her the second most nominated actress in Tony history (after Julie Harris).

Skittles most well known traits are her fast feet, high kicks, and brassy spirit. She is a great Broadway actress and dancer but has also been on TV. She was on a lot of the musical variety hits like Ed Sullivan, Dihah Shore, Garry Moore, and Carol Burnett.
